Blessing

It is our original nature to bless; to encourage, build up and support ourselves and those around us. How do we bless properly? This comes from an understanding of the process of blessing, where blessing originates and how we can become channels for releasing this blessing. First, the energy which blesses does not come from us, but rather it comes through us. The source of blessing is universal life energy. When we place our hands on ourselves or others to bless, we are completing a circuit. We receive from the positive (universal life energy) and transmit to the negative (the object of blessing). Therefore, to allow the greatest passage of this energy, we should remove as much of “ourselves” as possible from the exchange. Beyond the intention to allow blessing energy to flow through you, any thoughts, feelings, desires, hopes, fears, imaginings or other ego-based mental projections will lessen the effectiveness of the blessing. To keep our minds focused on the intention to bless, it is helpful to establish and practice an invocation of blessing which keeps your mental perspective correct. Though the exact style and language of blessing is beautifully varied with each individual or situation, let us examine the blessing below to see how to effectively combine the components of the blessing process.

“May the universe through me bless you right here and now with _____________, for the purpose of _____________ as it be in harmony with the flow of the universe.”

Now, broken down into steps, we can observe how the process works.

“May the universe (acknowledges the source) through me (connects the energy to you) bless you (connects you to the recipient) right here and now (establishes place and time) with (state the attributes of the blessing), for the purpose of (state the desired result of the blessing), as it be in harmony with the flow of the universe (places the blessing in its proper perspective).”

Though sometimes such formal blessings may be requested or appropriate, most of the time your blessing is also just a smile, a kind and supportive word or a gesture of thoughtfulness. Your presence in this world should be a blessing to those around you.
