Work Experience
I Graduated in 2002 without a job in own field. Although our college had good campus placements but because of september 11 in U.S.A. world's markets were trembling and India was no exception and hence we had very poor campus placement with only 4 guys getting placed out of a class of 44. I was preparing for GRE and hence I did not start looking for job till the end of 2002.
I got my first job as Assistant Production Manager in a small local company is jallandhar, punjab. I worked there for 3 months and was looking after their production section. They produced cycle tyres and tubes.
In january, 2003, I got a Trainee Engineer postion in Kanoria Chemicals and Industries Ltd. Ankleshwar, Gujrat. Ankleshwar is a hub for chemical industry in India and I was placed in a distillery and was assigned a project to reduce water consumption in the production of industrial grade ethyl alcohol.
After doing some literature review and lab experiments, I was successfully ale to reduce their water consumption by 40% by recycling spent wash back into the system.
I came back home to visit my parents in Amritsar and was selected by Dutch State Mines (DSM) for Officer Trainee post. They needed an officer for their water management facility and as I was working in the field, I was selected. Although, it was a trainee position but from the first day itself I was handling the plant. The plant was newly installed and workers were not properly trained to operate it. As a result, there were no Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or spreadsheets regarding the operation and working of the plant. Over the next 8 months I stabalized the plant and developed SOPs and spreadsheet to document the working of the plant. I also got involved in the marketing of solid residue produced from the Multiple Effect Evaporator and Biomass produced from activated sludge process of our plant. We were trying to sell these products to cement kilns and farmers. It provided me a unique oppurtunity and experience in a short interval. In the end, I successfull managed the expansion project to double the capacity of water management facility. As a result of this experiencem, I am trained in operation and control of Multiple Effect Evaporator, Activated Sludge prcess, reading and revising Construction Drawings but most importantly I got trained in handling manpower. As I had to manage a team of 16 people after one month of taking charge.
After coming to Canada, I am involved in the design and development of Radioactive Particle Tracking (RPT) System. For details regarding RPT system please refer to the research section of my website. |
