National Website
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated was founded on November 17, 1911 on the campus of Howard University. Three Howard University undergraduate students, with the help of their faculty advisor, founded the first. men's Greek-letter fraternity on the campus of a historically Black university.

The name Omega Psi Phi was derived from the initials of the Greek phrase meaning "friendship is essential to the soul." This phrase was also selected to be the orgranization's motto. Manhood, scholarship, perserverance, and uplift were adopted as cardinal principles.

Since its founding, the purpose of Omega Psi Phi has been to unite college men who share similar ideals in order to occupy a progressive, helpful, and constructive place in the community and to aid the downtrodden in its efforts to achieve higher economic and intellectual status.

The national initiatives of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated include:
-The South Africa Initiative
-Omega UNCF Initiative
-The National High School Essay Contest

The fraternity's involvement in the National Assault on Illiteracy Program is another example of its enduring commitment to the principle of uplift.
