My first "ground up" build. I took the '59 apart in August '75 as I was getting out of the service and built the bike while going to school on the GI Bill. I was perpetually broke so the only thing I could afford from Denver's Choppers was the seat, but stole a ton of ideas from them. I streached the frame 4 inches and set the neck at about 40 degrees. Rebuilt the motor & trans. Built the wide glide from spare parts. Why I didn't like the springer -I don't remember. The paint is "rattle can" fireball red done in the garage. The paint came out OK for a $10 investment.

Not a show winner, but not bad for a 20 or 21 year old.

Eventually, the cost of San Diego State and everyday life in San Diego caught up with me and I had to sell the bike.

It would be the only period in my adult life without a HD. I had a Honda 305 Scrambler during this time, but no-one wants to see that.
