The Panhandle Shall Rise like a Soaring Eagle!

My fellow Circle K'ers, You're in for a real treat! The 2000 Florida Issues Conference shall be held at Beautiful Sandestin in the Florida Panhandle for the first time in 41 years.  That ought to feel great! So let Freedom Ring and get ready for Sandestin. This Beautiful area of the Panhandle is home to Eglin Airforce Base and the Pensacola Shippping Yard and the world's prettiest Beaches. So you folks in Miami, get ready for the best Issues Conference ever. Common on down to the Issues 2000. These Beautiful Beaches are as pretty as Varadero, but Freedoms rings in the Panhandle, so will Freedom  ring at Varadero and all over Cuba soon!!!  So kick your boots and head for the Florida Panhandle for Issues Conference November 3-5, 2000. 0

at As the July 4th Independence Celebrations approaches, I think of the Freedoms that we enjoy in America. I also think of what we must do to protect those Freedoms!  One of those Freedoms is the right to Vote!  Our generation will become tomorrows leaders. So we should start taking the initiative to get out and vote.  One of the great benefits of voting is that if the 18-25 age group voted like the 65+ group, the Florida Legislature would not consider Tuition Increases every year. You know why? Because the Legislators would be afraid that we would vote them out. Unfortunately, since the 18-25 age group votes in dismal numbers, the Florida Legislature increases our tuition every year. Gov. Bush just gave us a 5% increase. Back in 1998, the Florida Legislature attempted to pass HR 4169 and SB 1854 which would have eliminated the in-state tuition and everyone would have paid the current out-of-state tuition. Thank God, your fellow CKI members,  from FSU, (led by yours truly) rouse in opposition and we wrote the Legislators and asked fellow FSU Students to do the same.   HB 4169, proposed by Representative Warner, Republican of Central Florida, had sailed through first and second reading by unanimous consent.  But after our efforts, Representative Villalobos (former CKI Governor from FSU) killed HB 4169 in the House, thus the Senate Bill died. Had we not been watching, most Florida state universities would have cost almost as much as attending the University of Miami!

Congratulations UWF President Kim Dewey  and  the  Board  of Officers  of  the  University of  West  Florida, the Issues Conference 2000 will be in your neck of the woods. Please tell everyone. We expect a big showing from as far as Miami at Issues. This is your opportunity to grow into the powerhouse of the Panhandle. Perhaps we could have two divisions again!  Great Job, Kim on becoming an officially registered Club at UWF. That's one of the most important steps in the Chartering process! Also, congratulations to Israel on his election as UWF Student Body President.  Great Job UWF.  See you at Zone Rally & Issues!!!

Freedom for Elian Gonzalez Bruton
I think Elian should stay in the United States. His mom, Elizabeth Bruton died attempting to bring Elian to the land of freedom. I think it would be a victory for Communism and a defeat for Freedom& the U.S. if Elian returns to the repressive CastroSovietState ofCuba!

*State of the Division
My Fellow Circle K'ers,  I am proud to announce that the State of the Division is a bit stronger than the last month. "But we must forge forward," as Jorge MasCanosa uses to say. Now we have in place leaders at key sites that will shine, shine, shine! First, I  like to thank TCC's Vice President Marie Olibrun for her leadership at TCC. Second, I like to congratulate UWF for their continued progress and the election of Israel as SGA President at UWF. Also,  thank FL Dist. Sec. Michelle Lachance for traveling with me during my last tour of the Division. She helped put up tons of flyers at Chipola and NFCC. I also  like to thank Past NC Governor Brian Hard for his leadership  at GCCC. Finally, I like to thank  Key Club Lt. Gov Jennifer Wilson for her leadership at NFCC. As well as Chipley's Key Club Pres. & Immediate Past Key Club  Lt Gov Peter Mayfield for his efforts at Chipola. Please keep up the good work & call  me anytime. I will travel on short notice to your campus to help out.

*In the Horizon: the Emerald Coast

I would like to thank Past North Carolina Governor Brian Hard (former Candidate for International President- 1996) for his efforts with the Chartering of Gulf Coast Community College Circle K, as well as the St. Andrews Kiwanis Club of Panama City for their willingness to give Circle K a Second Chartering Chance!
I want to thank Immediate Past Lt. Gov. Peter Mayfield, Div 3, (now President of Chipley High School Key Club) for his leadership in helping with Chipola Community College Circle K Chapter.
