The Panhandle Shall Rise like a Soaring Eagle! My fellow Circle K'ers, You're in for a real treat! The 2000 Florida Issues Conference shall be held at Beautiful Sandestin in the Florida Panhandle for the first time in 41 years. That ought to feel great! So let Freedom Ring and get ready for Sandestin. This Beautiful area of the Panhandle is home to Eglin Airforce Base and the Pensacola Shippping Yard and the world's prettiest Beaches. So you folks in Miami, get ready for the best Issues Conference ever. Common on down to the Issues 2000. These Beautiful Beaches are as pretty as Varadero, but Freedoms rings in the Panhandle, so will Freedom ring at Varadero and all over Cuba soon!!! So kick your boots and head for the Florida Panhandle for Issues Conference November 3-5, 2000. 0
at As the July 4th Independence Celebrations approaches, I think of the Freedoms that we enjoy in America. I also think of what we must do to protect those Freedoms! One of those Freedoms is the right to Vote! Our generation will become tomorrows leaders. So we should start taking the initiative to get out and vote. One of the great benefits of voting is that if the 18-25 age group voted like the 65+ group, the Florida Legislature would not consider Tuition Increases every year. You know why? Because the Legislators would be afraid that we would vote them out. Unfortunately, since the 18-25 age group votes in dismal numbers, the Florida Legislature increases our tuition every year. Gov. Bush just gave us a 5% increase. Back in 1998, the Florida Legislature attempted to pass HR 4169 and SB 1854 which would have eliminated the in-state tuition and everyone would have paid the current out-of-state tuition. Thank God, your fellow CKI members, from FSU, (led by yours truly) rouse in opposition and we wrote the Legislators and asked fellow FSU Students to do the same. HB 4169, proposed by Representative Warner, Republican of Central Florida, had sailed through first and second reading by unanimous consent. But after our efforts, Representative Villalobos (former CKI Governor from FSU) killed HB 4169 in the House, thus the Senate Bill died. Had we not been watching, most Florida state universities would have cost almost as much as attending the University of Miami!
