Rodo the Monster from Real Far Away!
Radio serials started back in the 1920’s. Because a good portion of the population owned or had access to a radio, there was a new medium by which to tell stories and for vaudeville to survive. There were many radio serials such as the Lone Ranger, Little Orphan Annie and Orson Welles famous broadcast, War of the Worlds to name a few. When Televisions became more affordable for everyone, there was a new medium for entertainment. While radio itself did not die off, the radio serial did. That is until 1977 when a comedy group called Duck's Breath Mystery Theater wrote a comical radio serial called Rodo: Monster from Space. The radio serial was on KSAN radio in San Francisco, California. A friend in high school told me it was a story about a monster from outer space who wanted to "destroy the human race." I listened to one broadcast and was hooked. I decided that I was going to find a way to record these broadcasts. I did have problems though. I did not have that great an FM stereo, and KSAN was not a strong radio station. So, I jury rigged a FM antenna in my room and used a cheep cassette tape I found lying around. It's not the best recording, but I could listen to the radio show again if I wanted. Unfortunately, there were some episodes that I was not able to record; and because Rodo: Monster from Space was not played again after the last episode, I never got the first few episodes along with the very last episode. I do have a good portion of the adventures of Rodo: Monster from Space. I searched the internet for years but could not find anything on Rodo the Monster not even at the Duck’s Breath Mystery Theater website. So, my project was to digitize my cassette tape and share Rodo with the world. I did start the project and got some episodes digitized and posted on this web page, but I never finished. Then I recently found a web page called Bandcamp. On that web site I found that Duck's Breath Mystery Theater has posted the Rodo: Monster from Space episodes where they can be listened to or purchased.
