Campus Safety Services Officer Patch 1991-1996 |
In 1991, C.M. “Stoney” Brook became the new Police Chief, and with a new chief came new changes. The first change was moving the District Police business office into the Campus Center at West Valley College. Chief Brook wanted to have the District Police more accessible to the students, faculty, and staff. The police department took over the evening escort program that was started by the Campus Center Director. The Campus Service Officers (CSO’s) handled the duty of escorting students during evening hours, CSO's were also assigned to work the desk at new business office at the Campus Center during the evenings. Because the CSO's responsibilities were changing, Chief Brook though the title should change to reflect these new services provided by the CSO's. Chief Brook changed the name from Campus Service Officers to Campus Safety Services Cadet. He felt Campus Safety Services reflected more of what the Administration of Justice students were doing within the police department.
With the change came a new patch design. Using the shape of the first two CSO patches, the patch was set against a black background surrounded by a gray border. In gray lettering on the top of the patch is the name of the college district, and on the bottom is what Chief Brook believed was what the program provided, Safety Services. In the middle of the patch is a hollow gray circle. In light blue words around the inside of the circle read “Learn, Serve, and Protect.”
For the next 5 years the Campus Safety Services Cadets performed foot patrols at the West Valley College and Mission College Campuses, they were also responsible for working the business office desks during the evenings. While the current CSO program had a loose ranking system, a more structured ranking system was put into place that was similar to ROTC officer ranks. |
