WHAT'S NEW

Since arriving back in England in July 2001 it's taken us a while to get settled. We were staying with Annie's dad for the first few months while we were job searching. Annie started working for our Local Council on a temp basis which seemed to go on forever. Paul was busy filling out endless job applications, but having no luck. Not even getting an interview. Annie was getting fed up with the job at the Council so she decided to quit. We then took a part-time job at Mothercare working as sanitary agents. What a laugh. The money wasn't too bad and it was only a couple of hours a day, but we had to cycle to the shop and winter was on it's way. Paul was still busy applying for jobs and actually got a few interviews, including one in Brighton and one for the National Autistic Society in London. He took the Autistic Society job when it was offered to him and we immediately gave up our clean...err.. sanitary agent jobs.

So now it was just a matter of us finding somewhere to live and for Annie to get a job.

We found a nice flat in Epping which we snapped up. We signed our lease, moved in, Paul started his new job and that was November 2001. We had hardly any furniture and basically sat on cushions all over Christmas until our sofas arrived in January. We finally got the place sorted when some temp work came Annie's way. All over Christmas Annie was applying for jobs, with absolutely no luck, so she was glad to get some work. It started off as 2 weeks work at the local hospital and ended up lasting 5 months. She finally left when she got offered a job working for Kids Club Network in Docklands. We'd never heard of them either! So she started there in July and is still there today, working as the receptionist/administrator.

So that's where we are for now. Our paln is to return to New Zealand in late 2003...possibly.

While we've been here we've been busy making the most of living on the doorstep of London. We've been to a few gigs, done lots of shopping and even tons of tourist stuff. We've had a few weekends away including Belgium on our first wedding anniversary. Great chocolates! We even had a proper holiday on the gorgeous island of Madeira. In November we hired a car and headed north to visit Annie's nephews Peter and Andrew in Warrington, who she hadn't seen for ages.

Considering all these trips we are still managing to save money for when we return to New Zealand. We had a round figure in our heads which we wanted to save so once we reach this we shall be off.

So Christmas is over for another year, it's snowing outside and it's flippin' cold, and getting colder. Now is the time we wish we were back in New Zealand, just the beginning of summer... lovely!
