75 years of musical
journey of Hindi Cinema.
“Music is a language that
everyone understands. It is like an ocean that travels across the boarder,
without any hurdles. It is a matter that starts from a heart and touch directly
to other hearts. And the music is related to Hindi cinema like “Choli-Daaman” relations. When we talks about Today
evening we will take you through the 75 yrs of musical journey. It contains sur, sargam and
some very sweet memories. Some yours, some ours. And
when we talked about memorable journey, we should not ask about destination.
na puchho hamse ki manzil
kaha hai, abhi to safar kaa
iraadaa kiyaa hai
naa harenge ham kabhi, kisi aur
se nahi khud se hamane yeh vaadaa
kiya hai
This musical journey is brought
by Music lover association and WorldSpace music
channel 45 Farista.”
And we had Sulagnaa as an anchor, host of the show. She is RJ of Radio
Farista - WorldSapce
network, hosts morning show. Like in ‘Lage raho Munnabhai’ Vidya Baalan was handling the
morning show in WorldSpace. Just look at these live
photographs of the event.
“We have a special person
today, Mr. V.K.Murthy. He is a legendary person. He
gave us movie like Kagaz Ke
Fool and Pyasa. His thoughts, creativity we will
always remember. We will give him a standing round of clause. ‘aaj ki saam V.K. Murthy ke naam’.
When you entered to this
auditorium, Radio Farista has give a love-letter to
you all. It is a quiz about Mr. V.K. Murthy. The winners will get a very good
prize from us. Deepak from Radio Farista did the
required research for this quiz.
So welcome all special
evening.” As per tradition, all programme starts with
a prayer.
1. E maalik tere bande ham from the movie do aankhe,
baaraah haath.
Next song was very old and
about old era, that is now past. I heard this song first time.
2. Gujar gayaa, voh jamaana, kaisa,
kaisa
Hashi khusi ki baat jisame
Gujar gayaa, voh jamaana, kaisa, kaisa
After
that one more unknown song, that I heard first time.
3. E chaand chhoop naa jaana
I was wondering, should I regret my decision to attend this show? Ticket
was Rs. 100 and Rs. 150. I
opted for Rs. 100 ticket, I got sit in balcony. I
know pricing of musical concerts in
“If we have such a
wonderful audience, sweet memories and MAHEFIL than not only moon, but all
starts are also with us. The singer Prabhaa is such a
star performer singer that she was a winner in one talent hunt.” The audience
clapped. So she appreciated that, “yes, now we have a heart connection so I do
not need to ask you to clap. Samajadaro ko ishara kaafi
hai” Then she announced about a next singer and
only few people from a corner claps to claim that they are intelligent! :)
Next song was originally by
K.L.Saaygal. “Anything to mention about him is like Suraj ko diyaa dikhaana”
4. ......kyon mujse khafaa hai
tu? Kyaa
Yes the singer’s voice was
matching with Syagal. It was a different feeling to
hear such an old song, with today’s advanced electronic musical instruments.
Such song we can only imagine playing on Gramophone.
“A song
from movie Taxi Driver.
Probably this song is near to many
of your hearts.”
“We have just began our musical journey. Next stop is Khaamoshi
a 1969 movie. What should I talk about this movie? Its
music? Performance? Screenplay?
Storyline? Everything was just excellent. We remember
it even in Khamoshi The
song originally sung by Hemant Kumar.”
Yes, she was right. All
songs are associated with some memory. Sweet memory.
This song is associated with my friend, who sang it well in a programme, to impress her girlfriend and to pass these
wordings to her. Unfortunately she was absent. Not only that, their common
friend was also absent, who can pass the message to her that my friend sang
this song very well :( But anyway, now his girlfriend is his wife. :)
Next one was again by K.L. Sayagal from movie Paheli
Nazar. Actually it is not by K.L. Sayagal, it is by Mukesh. In his
early days of Mukesh, he tried to mimic the popular
singer of that time, K.L. Sayagal.
7.
Dil jalataa hai to jalane de. Aashun naa bahaa fariyaad naa kar.
Paying Guest How can we forget that excellent acting by Dev-Aanand. Music by S.D. Barman. Weather it is Bengoli
music or Hindi music, Barman’da mixes the classical
music and pop music and make such a beautiful fusion,
that only he can do it.
Par ham unhe pukare ge bhi aur
jordaar taaliyo se swagat bhi karenge......
The singer presented this song in a
typical style, with dance and audience also like it very much. However while
dancing, once he forgot that now the music is over and he is supposed to sing
the next ANTARAA.
At Radio Farista channel
45, we always 24 by 7 tries to play each and every tune that you remember, each
and every tune that touches your heart. Please fill up the quiz about V.K.Murthy. Now let me tell you about the quiz. Only 10 questions. Who knows the answers? Yes correct. One
and only one : Google.
So I asked my friend too surf and find out the answers. He was outside, so I
called another friend, whose mobile was unreachable! :( The watch keeper
suggested me to buy one booklet about Hindi Cinema. It cost Rs.
20 It covers Indian cinema history in Hindi and Kannada both. I knew, my neighbor bought it. Then why should I? :) I
requested him and browse through the book, but no section about V.K.Murthy
Next song was from super
hit film of year .1946 Anmol
Gadhi music by Nausaad.
Again a memory associated
with this song. A sweet memory. Long time back, on
Door Darashan (DD), one SARADAARji
was presenting one Boolywood quiz. It was such a
wonderful programme. His anchoring was good. There
was a gramophone on the central stage and programme
name was......Yes “Aavaaz de kahaan hai”
This song is like: the
entire audience was asking that where is the old era of
melodious Hindi movie music. Where it is now?
Do you know who is UmaDevi? Tuntun. I was not aware
about her real name. A fat and black heroine - mostly acted as comedian. She
acted in even new movie ‘DilJale’ A song from movie Dar, originally sung by Tuntun.
10.
Afasaanaa likh rahi hu, dile bekaraar kaa. Aaanko me rang
bhar ke, tere intazaar kaa.
And there was a short
break. Some formality. V.K.Murthy
and organizers came on stage. Honored the guest with flowers,
Shaal. The anchor Sulagna
welcome Sheetal Arora from
Radio Farista and asked audience to clap for her as Sheetal is boss of Sulagna :).
She emphasize on the visual impact of the music. Each song of Hindi Cinema
including Black & White movie has a visual impact on us. Like Madhubala or Vahida Raheman dancing etc. V.K.Murthy
also delivered a small speech in English and Kannada.
And then the journey
resumes. Next song from movie Kaagaz
Ke Fool.
Again
some memory. My mother used to
sing this song for me, when I fall ill, during my visit to native place.
Next song from a movie, a
classical movie, that we heartily remember it even today. Pyaasaa. Watch MAADI 1

Jaane voh kaise log the jinke pyaar ko pyaar mila. Hamne to jab kaliyaa maangi, kaaton kaa haar

style was also wonderful. Chaudawi kaa chaand.
Whenever we listen to this song, we got that visual impact Guru Dutt and Vahida Raheman. Watch MAADI 2

Chaudawi kaa chaand ho, yaa aafataab ho. Jo bhi ho tum, khudaa

Jawa hai
mohabat hasi hai jamana, lutaayaa

old songs, their wordings and their tunes.
Next song by K.L.Saaygal
15.
Haaye haaye ye zaalim jamaanaa....
This song is at very low pitch.
Singer’s voice had full bass. Yet he was able to control his tune and pitch. Excellent.

For all such songs, the music director was counting 1,2,3,4 and all musicians
started together. They all have very good synchronization.

24.
Kaun aa.............yaa? Kau..........n aa..........ya?
Kaun aayaa, mere man ke dware, paayal ki jankaar
liye. Kaun aaya?
Next
was some thanks giving formality. All the musicians, artists,
a person handling audio system. Watch
MAADI 4 Radio Farista staff. The anchor Sulgana
mentioned that our Farista has a small family.....all
few of us. “Chhota parivar, sukhi pariaar” Personally I know,
the reason behind this small family. Recently many private FM channel is
started. So RJs also become like - us - software
engineers. High attrition.
Sulgana announced the result and winners of quiz related to V.K.Murthy. Only one person could replied
8 out of 10 correct answers. So he was winner. A couple of people from audience
could reply 7 correct answers. Out of them 4 lucky winners got prize. And yes,
one of them was my expert neighbor. The winners got some WorldSpace
goodie bag, that contains a mousepad, a cap etc.
The
organizer was wondering, in spite of no rain, why the audience is less. And announced,
that all the people has missed it, will regret about it. On the same day,
morning programme was about Kannada music. Someone
commented, morning one was better. The organizer took it positively: “It always
happens”. He insisted the audience to share all the good things about this programme and report the constructive comments to the
organizer. In one song, old slow song, suddenly the key board started paying

the rhythm with each song.
Panakj Mallik first time brought this
Bengali music to Hindi cinema, in the movie Kapaal
Kundalaa. When Ravidranaath Tagore himself
heard this song, he was so satisfied that he commented: It is the best way that
I can listen the translation of my song. Watch MAADI 5
