In addition to DLP, this TV combines state-of-the-art digital imaging technologies, such as pixel conversion, with Panasonic's original optical technologies, such as a wide-angled diffusion screen panel and short-focus lens. This combination helps the PT-52DL10 display a high resolution of 1,280 x 720p, superb brightness, and high contrast.

A 1-chip Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) provides natural, stable pictures free of the color bleeding common to other projection TVs. It eliminates geometric distortion and the "screen door" effect. The DMD is a 0.7-inch optical subconductor chip with approximately 1 million inline microscopic mirrors. The mirror angles are adjusted with static electricity to reflect picture information that helps the PT-52DL10 deliver its exceptionally high-resolution 1,280 x 720p images.

The PT-52DL10 is equipped with digital component video inputs that let you easily hook up an optional set-top box for viewing fabulous high-definition digital TV. HDTV offers the clearest, highest resolution (1,080i, 720p) images you can currently get in a home setting. If your cable company "passes through" a network DTV signal unchanged, you can even use your optional set-top box to decode and tune the program.

Today's conventional NTSC TV signals are transmitted with an aspect ratio of 4:3 (the squarish TV picture you are accustomed to). All HDTV and some SDTV signals will be transmitted with an aspect ratio of 16:9 (widescreen format like a movie theater screen). HDTV broadcasts are delivered in the exciting, new 16:9 widescreen format, the same aspect ratio in which movies are made. The screen of the PT-52DL10 is wider than a conventional TV screen, so it can accommodate this widescreen format. You'll finally be able to see movies as the director intended, in the comfort of your own home. You'll also get a wider view of sporting events, just as though you were there in person. Please note that conventional 4:3 aspect ratio pictures can still be viewed on the wider screen, as these pictures can be digitally "stretched" to fill the screen.

The PT-52DL10 also features two-tuner picture-in-picture with split screen display (NTSC only), in which two built-in tuners with the useful PIP feature let you watch two TV programs simultaneously. Swap the main screen and inset picture at the touch of a button, use this feature to search your favorite channel memory, or scan available channels in the inset picture during channel search. The lighted Director home theater remote with joystick is the only remote you'll need to operate all components in your home theater entertainment system. With its lighted keypad, the remote can be easily located in darker environments. The Director remote can be programmed to control most current audio and video equipment, such as VCRs, DVD players, cable TV boxes, CD players, laser disc players, DBS receivers, stereo receivers, and audio cassette tape decks.
