On Monday, July 3 we left Salisbury, MD and drove to Norfolk,
VA.
As we drove over the chesapeake
bay bridge-tunnel we got to watch the sunset over the bay as
we drove across the 20 mile long bridge.
We checked into the beautiful Waterside Marriott. Our room was on the
23rd floor facing the bay.
We met Sandra and David there. Their room was on the 21
floor facing the bay.
We arrived a little before them and arranged a birthday
surprise for Sandra, a spa gift basket, 2 dozen roses,
AND 2 DAVE MATTHEWS BAND TICKETS to the 4th of July show
This is the band's first July 4 show since a 6-song festival set in
Belgium on 7.4.98..
and is sure to be a blast.

The next morning after a good breakfast, We walked to the waterside
marketplace where
we had a great time at Jillian's playing games.
It was a beautiful day.
We took a stroll outside and then took a paddle boat ride over to
Portsmouth
(to Sandra's surprise we didn't have to paddle the boat ourselves)
The concert was fantastic, we had great seats center stage front row on
the second level. You can listen to the actual concert, just click on your song selection above

It was a hot and humid evening in Virginia Beach, but that didn't hold
back DMB.
We were honored to have John D'earth, a long time friend of the band,
sit in with his trumpet on a few tunes.
We were treated to fireworks tonight as the band finished off the
encore with Stay.
The display started a few minutes before the end of the tune and
continued for another five.
The band hung out on stage to watch as Hendrix's rendition of the Star
Spangled Banner played over the PA.
The crowd cheered on. It was a great moment. Happy 4th y'all,
we'll see you tomorrow in Scranton.
