In the name of God, I make and ordain this my last will and testament on the following form towit. It is my desire that Mrs. Nancy Callis wife of Elijah Callis shall take charge of my oldest daughter Mary Jane; Mrs. Jane white widow of Robert White shall take charge of my second daughter Virginia Ann and Mrs. Frances C. Butler widow of John O. Butler shall take charge of my third and youngest daughter Frances Elizabeth; and that my son John shall be bound out to Mr. Philip Rainey to learn the saddles business. After the payment of my just debts, it is my will and desire that Capt. Jennings M. Jeffreys be appointed my executor who shall dispose of my estate both real and personal in the way he may deem best for the promotion of my children's interest severally and equally given under my hand and seal this 8th day of December 1834.

In a court held for Mecklenburg County on the 15th day of December 1834. The foregoing last will and testament of William Carey deceased was this day produced in open court and proved by the oath of R. Redd, Theo. W. Butler and William T. White the there subscribing witness thereto and ordered to be recorded Jennings M. Jeffreys the executor therin named by his letter to the court, has refused to take himself the burden of the execution thereof.
And on the motion of John F. Finch who made oath thereto and together with William Smith and Elijah Callis his securities entered into and acknowledged this bond in the penalty of $4000. Conditioned as the law directs, certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of administration upon said estate, with the will annexed in due form.
