CROSSWORD CLUES

I had discontinued the Crossword column, as I felt that others did not share my passion. But Prasad wrote 'And as for including a crossword clue or two in your newsletter, I think the only reason for silence on our parts is that they are tough. But I always attempt them'. So I am restarting it. I shall try to give reasonably easy clues.

Just to recap, every Cryptic Crossword clue will contain a 'definition' of the answer (usually at the beginning or the end), or the whole clue will be the definition.

Of the different types of Cryptic clues, ANAGRAMS or a re-arrangement of the letters are the most popular. For knowing whether the clue is an anagram, look for words that suggest mixing: "confused", "wild", "upset", "broken" etc.

I have given ten anagram clues ranging from 4-letter words (parliamentary, of course) to a 12-letter word. Four of these are with names of relatives and six are general. I have also underlined the word from which the anagram is formed. For example, the solution to the clue 'Chicago man RAPS AD madly (6)' is 'PRASAD'. The definition in the form of a jumble is 'RAPS AD' and the answer is 'Chicago man'. The solution to the clue 'Broken SHELF holds meat (5)' is 'FLESH'

Good Luck and get cracking !!
