Target Range = 80 – 110 mg/dl

PPBS = Post Prandial Blood glucose
Normal range = 80 – 140 mg/dl
Target range = 80 – 160 mg/dl
Checks for blood sugar levels due to insulin resistance or lack of insulin.

RBS = Random Blood Sugar
Normal = 80 – 140 mg/dl

HbA1c = Hemoglobin A1c
Normal range = 4.0 – 6.0 percent
Target range = 5.5 – 8.0 percent
Checks the average blood sugar over the last three months.

LIPIDS (Blood Fats):
Total Cholesterol
Normal Range = 0 – 199 mg/dl
Checks levels, which can increase the risk for vascular problems.

Normal range = 0 – 99 mg/dl

HDL = High density lipoprotein
Normal range = 45 – 85 mg/dl
Checks for higher levels which can lower the risk of heart disease.

TGL = Triglycerides
Normal range = 0 – 150 mg/dl
Checks levels, which can increase the risk of heart disease.
Tends to be higher if blood sugars are elevated.

PROTEIN
Urine Micro albumin
Normal range = 0 – 30 mg/dl
Urine tests which checks kidney function. Best done after rest (i.e. first morning’s urine).
Results may be skewed with mensturation, urinary tract infections or contaminated specimens.

Creatinine
Normal range = 0.6 – 1.5 mg/dl
Blood test which checks kidney function.

BUN = Blood urea nitrogen
Normal range = 6 – 25 mg/dl
Blood test which checks kidney function.

OTHERS
Ketones – blood or urine
Normal range = negative
Check for ketone bodies related to severe insulin deficiency. Used to diagnose a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis – usually found with Type 1 diabetes and/or extremely elevated blood sugars.
