Class Prophecy

Through the Years ….

November 19, 1986. How time swiftly flies. It never came to my mind that I have established myself this long s a permanent resident of Columbus Avenue and Dimock Street Boston 19, Massachusetts, United States of America. And so when I happened to get hold of the newspaper from my beloved Philippines, I quickly turned the pages and read-read-read- and read … Wow!

POLITICS

Ex-President ROLANDO PEREZ is employing all means to have another canvassing of the votes cast in his favor because he believes that he was cheated in the recently concluded elections. He refuses to concede in spite of several recounting made by the Commissions headed by RODOLFO VERGARA. Incumbent President DANILO GALANG, confident of his victory, is now stumping on the different provinces to thank all those who elevated him tot he presidency. First Lady HELEN OCERA GALANG is designated government caretaker in the absence of the president.

Secretary of Foreign Affairs ANDREA DIZON clashed with the Justice of the Supreme Court LEOPOLDO DAVID on the question of rice importation. The only lady in the cabinet believes that the Philippines does not need to import rice because we can substitute coconuts for it. Meanwhile Defense Minister MANUEL OCAMPO ordered the arrest of the members of the worldwide known Philippines combo, "THE PILI-NUTS" for having something to do with the storm the left great destruction on the pili nuts in the Bicol region.

In Congress, opposition leaders headed by Rep. RENATO ALARCON and Senator ARMENGO SANTOS are supporting a bill to impeach the president. They believe that Senate President Marilyn de Castro is more qualified for the position. It is expected that the move will not gain prominence since majority of the solons belong to the "Graft and Corruption Party" headed by the president himself.

SCIENCE

In the field of science, the Philippines maintains her lead in the space race after Professors JOSE DUNGLAO and JESUS SICAT successfully established four button factories on the Moon, three paper factories on Jupiter, and two pencil factories on Pluto. The Filipino nation is also greatly indebted to Vice-president ENRIQUETA FIGUEROA and to Speaker ANTONIO PATIU without whose efforts the space adventure could not have been possible.

Meanwhile, Chief Scientist DANILO SANTOS of the University of the Philippines perfecting his experiment on how to stop the earth from revolving around the sun. He believes that by doing so, he will not grow old.

Doctors ANASTACIO LIWAG and JOSE N. DIZON, acclaimed tops in Medicine, are aboard "RPS 707" by way fo the Madagascar Republic. With them are nurses HUMBELINA MANALASTAS, ERLINDA MENDIOLA, FLORINDA CAPATI and ERLINDA PANGILINAN. They are to cure the tonsils of President GERONIMO LAXINA.

Chief Nurses EDITH OWEN and EVANGELINE SERRANO are under investigation for injecting patients with rusty needles and undistilled water.

EDUCATION AND ECONOMY

Secretary of Education ALEJANDRO DAVID announced the other day that ten outstanding teachers are doomed for a scholarship abroad. They are Misses MARIETTA TOLEDANO, ESTRELIA ANGELES, EVELYN CANLAS, VIRGINAIA VENTURA, ANANITA PAMINTUAN, NELCIETA ZAPATA, AMELIA CANLAS, MISTERS EFREN PINEDA and DANILO GARCIA. The grant is being offered by a former Filipino citizen JAIME CHAN who is now the head of the Oxford University in England.

Superintendent LOLITA MENDIOLA conducted a nation wide survey on the Philippine education. She discovered that in many instances when students are asked in English, they answer in Tagalog. They even attempt in Spanish. In their written work, they spell the words in Tagalog way, too. In the class discussion, majority are only listeners and the few who talk, speak in either kilometric or a word structure. Reason - she believes in too many languages and subjects being offered.

On the other hand, Representatives WILLIAM TOLENTINO and JOSE DEANG took the cudgels in the House to support a bill seeking to make all Filipinos farmers. They say that this is the only solution to the worsening economic situation of the country. The move was spurred by the complaints filed by Governor LORENZO PANGILINAN and Vice-governor ESTRELIA MENDOZA of Laguna and Cotabato, respectively, that the people of their provinces are slowly dying of hunger. But Pangasinan Vice-Governor EDUARDO OCAMPO denies the existence of poverty because in their place, all they have to do is eat, rest and play.

Meanwhile, the Philippine exports to other countries are being boycotted because of the undiplomatic politics of Customs chief ABRAHAM DE LEON. He wants free taxes for Philippine goods to other place while at the same time he increases the dues paid on foreign commodities by 70%.

SOCIETY

Miss Philippines ESTRELITA HILARIO, Miss International ANTONIETA NUNAG and Mr. RENATO TAYAG will cut the ribbon to formally open the business firm of CARMELITA PUNZALAN and ELOISA LOPEZ. They trade in fashionable dresses and articles.

THE PHS will celebrate its 74th foundation day. Principal REYNALDO BAGSIC is busily preparing for general homecoming. Various contests are to be held. Prizes will be awarded to the alumnus with the most children and to the most successful politician (unmindful of whether he is corrupt or not). It is expected that Mr. and Mrs. ERNESTO MUNOZ will get the first title while Senator RODOLFO TAYAG will get the latter. It is a known fact that although he is corrupt he does it secretly that his name has not been linked to any scandal.

SPORTS

CIELITO LINDO, champion woman sprinter of the Olympics Games, broke her own record where she clocked 59.99 seconds during a 100-km dash, compared to her former record of 1 minute two seconds. The reason - the clock is out of order.

ARTS

World's most outstanding architect BIENVENIDO SICAT announced recently his plan of adding 46 more stories to the already 32-storey Secretariat building of the United Nations. Architect Sicat is also known for the construction of the Baritan Summer Resort in Baritan City.

This is class 1965 in the years to come.
