Work of the Patina Doctor .....Santa Fe, NM
In French it is 'Patinuer'.......
One who puts a finish on wood or metal.  Usually the look that the patinuer is trying to achieve is like a natural weathering.....or aging.  Woods or metals get darker and rich in color.
What I strive for is that same kind of richness in color while seeing the luster of the bronze underlying the patina.

There is a majic that happens when the combination of elements and chemicals created from the earth meet.
Patinas vary in texture as well as color.  Many artist like a heavy, somewhat crunchy look similar to impasto in painting.

'Distant Thunder'
This is one of Star York's finest works.  The story about this larger than life beauty is of an Apache woman running for safety with her child.  You can see the urgency in the mothers face and feel the motion in  the flowing skirt.  Sometines it is hard to believe it is bronze and not fabric.
Here is another view of the Mark Rowland Cougars that found their final home in Orlando, Florida.
Driving down Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe, you will see Large Naminga sculptures recognized by their geometric and symbolic elements.
The Grandmother stands content, knowing.
Dan Naminga's work is fabricated bronze which does not patina quite the same as cast bronze. The metal heats up quickly because it is all approximately 1/4" thick.

'Reposando' 2001 by Pamela Van Kirk
'Swimming Nude' 2002 by Pamela Van Kirk
This is a one of a kind, cast direct from the wax.  It is the first of my absract nude series in bronze.  The subject appears to be floating.  The patina is Ferric, red to gold on the main part of the figure and blue cupric, sprayed with an airbrush to give it a more transparent affect.
This is the second bronze in the abstract nude series, also a one of a kind.  The patina has silver nitrate and ferric, then high polished in some areas.  A cold patina of Aluminum Chloride was put on later to creating a crunchy turqoise coloration to give the idea of ageing from water and corosion.  The figure is swimming out of a solid block balancing on its corner (a Bill Weaver influence) into being.
