Syntax
The dash here is used to show the initial shift in tone. It produces a sense of realization of mans limits by the chorus. After the dash all of the phrases are concise and direct. This is a contrast to the previous stanzas that were composed of one long sentence. This draws the readers attention to the last stanza and the question motivates the reader to participate. This adds to the effect and tone of the overall piece, and draws the reader's attention to the faults or limitations of man, rather than their nature.
