Disaggregate Test Data

After receiving test scores, we wanted to know what groups to target for extension classes and after school tutoring. Teachers were also concerned about the performance of our migrant students and black males. To help identify target groups and provide information to teachers, I disaggregated the CRCT scores to compile the needed data.

Using student groupings by ethnicity, limited English proficient (LEP) and economically disadvantaged I calculated the number and percentage meeting and/or exceeding the state standards in the areas of Reading/English Language Arts and Mathematics. To help identify any patterns or trends, this information from the previous year of testing was also included in the data.

We were able to clearly identify target groups and areas of weakness from the data. The percentage of students not meeting the standard for Reading/English Language Arts for all groups improved except for the LEP students. The greatest improvement (from 35% failing to 19.1% failing) was for our black students. The percentage of students not meeting the standard for Mathematics split between our black and economically disadvantaged students improving and our Hispanics (from 35% failing to 43.3% failing) and our LEP students losing considerable ground. Overall, the gains in the percentage of identified groups meeting the standard for Mathematics was minimal. Therefore, our emphasis is directed towards improving students’ Mathematics scores. Our target groups include Hispanic students and LEP students. Our after school program and extension classes will be utilized to provided the needed learning opportunities for these students.
