Stupid and alone!
She’s lying
Eyes open, wide-awake.

Waiting for lost love,
She once had,
But never to arrive.

Gently fading to
Yesterdays,
Once lived, now pass her by.

Into the yellow
Wallpaper
Too soon, will she succumb?

…Or a muted brown
carnation,
Once white, wilting away?

Once beautifully,
Brilliantly,
Shining for all to see.

No longer useful,
Needed by
Once insatiable crowds.

She wonders… was Plath…
Was Sexton…
Truly right all along?

A symbol of strength,
She presents
For others to gaze on.

Yet, still fading as
carnations
Of yesterdays long gone.
