Lights & Heating
Their are several ways to heat your enclosure. My personal recomendation would be an Icandescent light bulb in a reflector type fixture. Incandescent light bulbs should be place over one corner of the enclosure as to allow a temperature gradient. The enclosure needs a basking area(under the heat lamp) and a cool area(at the other end of the enclosure). As leopard geckos are cold blooded they need the temperature gradient to be able to regulate their body temperature(this is called thermorgulation). Under the heat lamp the temperature should range between 85 - 95 degrees F. And at the cooler end the temperature should rand between 70 - 80 gegrees F.

Under tank heating pads are a sufficient way to heat the enclosure if placed under at least three to four inches of sand or a mixture of sand and soil. If their is not enough substrate to insolate the bottom of the enclosure the leopard gecko may get burnt. REMEMBER: geckos heat sensory is deeper in their skin than humans, so they don't realize something is hot usually until after they get burnt.

Heat Rocks can also provide a sufficient heat source for your gecko but unfortunetly most of these "Hot rocks" have problems. The most commom problem is to do with the temperature of these rocks. They often get too hot sometimes reaching temperatures of (105 degrees F) or (40 degrees C) I would never recommend this heat source, and I have heard nothign but bad results. So I would try and stay away from heat rocks all together.
