In my experience leopard geckos will only eat live, moving prey. Their diets should have some variety, but their staple diet should be crickets. Crickets need to be "gut loaded". This isn't probably what your thinking. All gut loading is, is feeding the crickets fruits or vegetables atleast twety-four hours before you feed the crickets to your gecko. Remember to always coat you crickets with a calcium/vitamin supplement, such as HerpCare: Calcium & Vitamin D3 supplement. To coat the crickets place the calcium/vitamin supplement inside a zip lock bag, close the bag and shake vigorously for atleast 15 seconds or until the crickets are totally covered in the supplement.
Leopard geckos also eat worms such as, meal worms, wax worms, and king worms. Only feed these on occation or as a special treat. Pinkies (hairless, baby mice) provide lots of nutrition to leopard geckos. These should be fed every 3 - 4 weeks but ONLY TO FULL GROWN ADULTS. The general rule of thumb is that prey should be no more than the length of the geckos head and less than half the width of the head. |
