| Tanegashima Island |
| Three Incredible years were spent on beautiful Tanegashima. Thanks to all the teachers who made my stay so wonderful. I've never met such kind people and can never repay them for their kindness. I had one occasion to briefly visit for a day on March 8th, 2003. It was like a dream, too short. Going on 2hrs sleep, 12 hours traveling and then another to get back to Saitama, it was well worth it. Every time I drink from my handcrafted Tanegashima earthen red cup, I'm reminded of my stay. Pictures Here are about 100+ pictures I took. A lot of flower pictures. Also check my farewell pictures from July 2002 and me rolling around in black sand. In September 2001 there was a rain disaster that whiped out a lot of roads, I have some photos, but you need to sign up with Sony to access them. Those who are thinking about visiting, here is some Japanese and English Information. Teppo Matsuri is one of the most famous events of Tanegashima. One can attend the festival in August. Check English Information to read about how the first western contact came through a ship crashing onto Tanegashimas shores. More recently Tanegashima is becoming known for Surfing. Some famous actors have been visiting its shores since 2001.If your looking for uncrowded beaches and good swells in Japan, go to Tane. But if your looking for McDonalds and all the modern conveniences from the west, I'd say go to Miyazaki or Chiba. Thanks again, to those of you reading this and were there when I was. I will never forget Tanegashima. |
