| Survival in Japan |
| If your like me and was sent off to a remote part of Japan, your probably left with a lot of questions. First off, clothes. If you need some descent threads and live off on some tiny island; internet will be your best bet. I've made a list of some stores I've tried. Email me if your interested in my experience with each of them. Books, if your a woman, Being Abroad in Japan gives a lot of details you just don't get in other books. Health, Beauty, clothes, etc. Internet, as of 2003, BBYahoo seems your best bet. Calls are only 2.5yen to the U.S. and 7.5yen every 3 minutes in Japan or free to other BBYahoo users. Oh and get analogue lite from NTT, 800 yen a month to rent. Learn Japanese, before and after. Your stress level (culture complaints)will be very high, even if you live in Tokyo, if you don't try. Try new things, if you do the same thing over and over again, you'll go away from Japan complaining. If your Christian and living on an island, email me for ideas on how to keep growing and connected with a church. Leave the country at least every 6 months if possible. Or take a trip every 3-5 months somewhere in Japan. The break will totally refresh you, you'll go back feeling 10 times better or worse if your not satisfied with where you are. Don't try to go native. You need foreign connections. |
