The order calls for aircraft built by Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed as well as six spare engines from London-based Rolls-Royce Group, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in an e-mailed statement Friday. The sale would provide Israel with a special operations airlift capability that would deter aggression in the region, provide humanitarian airlift capability and ensure interoperability with U.S. forces, the agency said. Notice of the proposed sale is required by law and doesn't mean that the transaction has taken place. Congress has 30 days to review the proposal".

  • The Economist: "America and Israel: Let there be justice for all - America's Israel lobby scores another questionable victory" (10 April 2008)

  • New York Times: Israel to Get $30 Billion in Military Aid From U.S., by Steven Erlanger (17 August 2007).
It is important to help the US media and public to understand that Israel's idea of peace always includes protecting their right to abuse the Palestinian people. This article describes America's huge military aid package to Israel, which was ok'ed by Congress largely to balance a slightly smaller aid package awarded to moderate Arab allies. They describe this aid package as necessary to maintain peace in the region, but this also means maintaining the status quo because much of the tension in the region is in reaction to Israeli practices and policies toward the Palestinian people, which is thus reinforced by the US aid package.

  • New York Times: U.S. Speeds Up Bomb Delivery for the Israelis, by David S. Cloud and Helene Cooper (22 July 2006).
This article describes rushed procedures used to re-arm Israel with smart bombs due to its immersion in a war situation. The shipment was part of a larger order already ok'ed by congress. The move is feared to anger Arab governments because it has the appearance of the USA arming Israel just as Iran rushes to arm Hezbollah, and that the USA is actively supporting Israel's bombing campaign in Beirut which is controversial.
