YOU NEVER KNOW WHO�S IN THAT BOAT NEXT TO YOU-7/16/02 1am:  Two men (47 and 28 years old) pull up to the Burt Reynolds Park boat ramp in Jupiter.  They are putting a 31-foot Contender onto a trailer being pulled by a 2002 Ford truck.  The Coast Guard stopped to talk to the men.  During the conversation one man suddenly jumped into the water.  He could not swim.  When police pulled him from the water, the man said that he had 700 pounds of marijuana in the forward cabin.  Both were arrested and the boat was confiscated.  Tequesta Police were also involved in the incident.  Police say the two men were connected to a November 2001 bust that netted over a ton of marijuana.
Fort Piecrce Fisherman Reels In Human Head-8/24/02: A man fishing with his son found a disembodied human head floating at sea, 22 miles east of the Fort Pierce Inlet.  He used a gaff to retrieve the head and place it in a garbage bag.  Then he kept on fishing.
  The fisherman said, "We didn't want to come in right away, so we just put it in a bucket... What's a couple of hours?"  The captain reported his find to police after docking 5 hours later.
  This same day a
woman's torso was found about 12 miles off Martin County and assorted body parts were found in the St. Lucie area.
  The day before the Coast Guard found
three bodies about 20 miles off Fort Pierce.
  The discoveries were thought to be related to illegal immigrant smuggling.
35 ILLEGAL IMIGRANTS COME ASHORE AT JUPITER ISLAND: 8/21/02-35 people from the Dominican Republic landed on Jupiter Island under cover of darkness.  They had been at sea for four days on a 40-foot sailboat.  Two escaped and the rest were detained.  Some were treated for dehydration.  Residents alerted police after hearing people yelling in Spanish as they came ashore.
DRUGS AFLOAT AT SEA-8/18/02: The Coast Guard discovered several packages of drugs floating off the Jupiter Inlet. 
  Authorities wouldn't say what kind of drugs were in the packages. However, they said that
drug dealers frequently leave drugs floating in the water so others can pick them up.
ILLEGAL IMIGRANTS OFF THE INLET-7/11/02: 12 Haitians and two smugglers were stopped three miles off Jupiter Inlet.  They were heading for the shores of Palm Beach County in a go-fast boat.  All were detained by the Coast Guard.
COAST GUARD ASKES FOR RECRATIONAL BOATERS� HELP-7/7/02:  The Coast Guard asks recreational boaters for help in the War On Terrorism.  Boaters are to call 1-866-SOS-TIPS if they see anything suspicious.
HUGE MYSTERY BUOY OFF DELRAY BEACH-7/3/02:  Coast Guard warns of a huge, rusting buoy that has appeared one mile off Delray Beach.  The buoy is the size of a ship.  It is unlit and can not be seen well at night.
BOATER SAVES MEN IN PLANE CRASH-7/3/02:  Two men crash in their private plane 15 miles east of the St. Lucie Inlet.  The men floated at sea for an hour.  They were rescued by a good Samaritan boater.  The boater was off Jensen Beach at the time of the crash.  Upon hearing the call over her marine radio, she immediately moved seven miles south to the retrieve the men.  She later transferred the men to a Coast Guard boat.
