This is a view of Florida Power and Light's Riviera Beach Power Plant, as seen from Peanut Island's southwest side.
During cold snaps in January and February,
dozens of manatees gather at the plant's warm water outlet, which is found on itt's southernmost point.  To see if manatees are gathered, call the viewing center at 1-800-552-8440.  Click here for more on FPL's manatee viewing area.
Obviously boaters should be on the lookout for sea cows headed for this "manatee magnet", especially when the water temperture is unusually cold.
Click here for more on manatees and local boating.
Street directions to Manatee Viewing Area: Take I-95 in Riviera Beach to 45th Street. Head east on 45th Street until it ends at Poinsettia Avenue. Turn left on Poinsettia Avenue and go north for about 15 blocks to FPLs Manatee Viewing Area entrance.
The viewing area, located on the south side of the plant, opens daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. but only from January 2 to February 28.
Call 1-800-552-8440 for the latest information.  Note that the viewing area was closed in 2002 and 2003 for "security" reasons.
  Using your boat,
it is possible to view the manatees from the Intercoastal Waterway.  Of course be extremely when approaching this area.

Click here for additional Manatee Viewing Area information.
View of the Port Of Palm Beach, as seen from Peanut Island's southwest side.  Large ships (with up to a 33 foot draft) can enter the Lake Worth (Palm Beach) inlet to use the dock and crane facilities here.
The ship on the right is the
Texas Treasure gambling boat. The Texas Treasure is tied up at the Palm Beach Cruise Ship Terminal in Riviera Beach.
Peanut Island's south side, as seen from the Lake Worth (Palm Beach) Inlet channel.
  The
Palm Beach Maritime Museum is to the left.  The old Coast Guard station is to the right.
Sea kayakers making their way around the southwest tip of Peanut Island.
This area is close to the Lake Worth Inlet.
Current is strong on incoming and outgoing tides.
