Dawn of Pale Morning Dawn

There’s a reason brother acts ultimately work in music. Sure the harmonies are better, but there’s also the relationship itself, which will always be there no matter how many Gallagher-esque or Davies-like fist fights occur.

“Being brothers, it’s the music, but you’ll never have that issue of breaking up,” says Ryan Farkas, whose band Pale Morning Dawn also features his sibling Lance.

“Whether we’re called something else down the road or something happens, we’re still related.”

The two-year-old power rock trio, which also features drummer (and non-brother) Bill Zembiak, celebrates the release of its self-titled Dave Alcock-produced debut CD with a show Dec. 5 at SAIT’s The Gate.

For Ryan, who used to be a part of local ’90s act Fine Grind, and Lance, who gigged around town as a singer-songwriter before joining his bro, the disc represents more of a passion project than an attempt to redefine themselves or take the music scene by storm.

“We’re not going for the indie thing or to make something totally crazy,” says Ryan. “We’re just doing it for fun and making music we love to do.”
