| HISTORY OF THE ORDER | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| PURPOSE OF THE ORDER | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Order of the Arrow (OA) was founded by Dr. E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson in 1915 at the Treasure Island Camp of the Philadelphia Council, Boy Scouts of America. It became an official program experiment in 1922 and was approved as part of the Scouting program in 1934. In 1948 the OA, recognized as the BSA's national brotherhood of honor campers, became an official part of the camping program of the Boy Scouts of America. The Order is a thing of the spirit rather than of mechanics, organizational, operational procedures, and all that go with them are necessary in any large and growing movement, but they are not what counts in the end. The things of the spirit are what count: |

| The purpose of the Order is fourfold: To recognize those Scout who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit. To promote Scout camping. To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others. |

| PALDANI CHAPTER | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In the Order of the Arrow, every council has it's own lodge, and likewise, every district has it's own chapter. In the Seminole District of the South Florida Council, the Paldani Chapter of O-Shot-Caw Lodge is responsible for upholding the high standards of the Order. In the past, Paldani Chapter has been 1998 Best-All-Around-Chapter in our lodge, and has also been instrumental in the success our lodge has on the council and section levels. In the past few years, Paldani has helped the Joseph Aaron Abbott Campership Fund to over $200 per year in donations, has run the concessions stand at the SFC Trailblazer Adventure Program, and has created the Scoutmaster's Dinner, an dinner for all Seminole District Scoutmasters honoring their help and success in making the district, and therefore Paldani, run smoothly. If you are a member of Seminole District and a non-member of the Order of the Arrow, and wish to learn more of Paldani's programs, e-mail Paldani Chapter Chief Alex Gomez at [email protected] or Chapter Adviser Jim Blanchard at [email protected] |

| Brotherhood: in a day when there is too much hatred at home and abroad. Cheerfulness: in a day when the pessimists have the floor and cynics are popular Service: in a day when millions are interested in getting or grasping, rather than giving." |
