| Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System, and if it were bigger than it would become a star like the Sun! Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. Instead of using Zeus, romans use Jupiter. Jupiter was named after the god of all Greek gods, Jupiter/Zeus since it was the biggest planet in our Solar System. Jupiter has 28 moons, but of course Saturn is still in the lead by 2! The Great Red Spot is a huge hurricane on Jupiter which has been going on for over 300 years! Other little spots on Jupiter are smaller hurricanes, but the Great Red Spot really stands out and your eye won't dare miss it! The biggest moon of Jupiter is also the biggest moon in our Solar System, Ganymede. Ganymede is even bigger than Mercury and has so many craters on it's surface. Io, another of Jupiter's popular moons, is so volcanically active and it's the most volcanically active body in the Solar System! Eruptions happen constantly on Io. Jupiter and the planets beyond it are named Jovian Planets since they are further away from the Sun. It takes 11.9 years for Jupiter to make one rotation around the Sun. We know that humans can never walk upon the surface of Jupiter, but if they do they will be instantly crushed by it's atmosphere. |
