Biographical Information

I hold a PhD in Political Science (2003) from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. My doctoral dissertation is titled: “Toward a Nigerian Information Society: ICTs as tools for socio-economic development – A case study." It was a study of the diffusion of ICTs and their prospects for generating economic growth in Nigeria.  The work had two interrelated goals.  First, it was aimed at contributing a critical “voice” and a political science perspective to the prevailing discourse on the utility of new ICTs as tools for socio-economic development. Second, the research was aimed at generating data and analysis to inform policymaking in Nigeria’s ICT sector, with the possibility of providing a policy model for other developing countries.

My research and teaching interests focus on the broad implications of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for socio-economic development in sub-Saharan Africa.  I am equally interested in the role of information and communication technologies in the processes of globalization, and their implications for marginal economies and cultures.

I have also worked in institutional research, a new and exciting field, that is tempting to pull me from my primary love – teaching.  My goal is to return to classroom teaching on a full-time basis.  It took a long time to realize it but I think I do indeed have a calling and passion for teaching, and have done some of it in recent times.  I also want to do research (both the institutional and scholarly varieties).

I am currently preoccupied with an organization that I have just set up.  It is called the Nigerian Child Development Fund, a charitable, non-profit organization that raises money to support needy children in one community in Eastern Nigeria.  A link to more information about the NCDF will be coming soon.

Underpinning everything else that I am doing at this time, I am a full-time mom and wife, and enjoying every moment of it.  The pay is not great but it is the career of a lifetime!!!  And the benefits are endless!
