HENNEPIN COUNTY LIBRARY OFFICIALLY WITHDRAWN September 20, 2007 – Golden Valley Library Attendees: Cindy Ahrens, Roger Burg, Pat Chisenhall, Mena Dyste, Linda Engberg, Jeannette Freed, Ruth Harris, Pat Kulseth, Sandy Louis, Phyllis Mattill, Holly McDonnell, Donna Meade, Vicki Oeljen, David Smith, Jean Smith, Sharyll Smith, Elaine Weber. The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m. MINUTES of the May 17, 2007 meeting had been distributed previously, 2 copies were available for review. MSP: Roger Burg/Pat Chisenhall. TREASURER’S REPORT: Balance May 2007: $226.41 Income $287.40 Expenses $ 27.47 Balance Sept. 20, 2007: $541.34 COMMITTEE REPORTS Displays: Fifi reported that the new display is “The Long Road to Merger” – about the history of merger discussions. She is looking for new topics for displays after January. HCL “bags” was suggested as a possibility; L.Engberg will send out request for copies of the variety of HCL book bags printed and distributed over the years; Pat K. will add the request to the OW web page. Archives: Sandy L. reported on the current project – the library has requested a 2- page worksheet/history on each library to be used for library events. Currently working on Brooklyn Park, Maple Grove & Plymouth plus the Bookmobile, to be completed by end of October. Next Excelsior, Minnetonka and Southdale. After each current library is done, group will look at former libraries (those that have closed). Anyone interested in participating should contact the OW e-mail or Sandy Louis. The Archivers are meeting the 2nd & 4th Tuesday each month, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Ridgedale. Membership: Pat K. reported that OW had 28 paid members in 2006, and now has 58 paid members for 2007 UNFINISHED BUSINESS OW Web Site: Pat K. reminded everyone that the web site can be accessed via the HCL Extranet. Also, the public HCL web page now has a new section – “55+”. Library Foundation: Linda E. has met with Jane Johnson, Foundation Director, to discuss the RHR Archiving Fund. The Foundation is interested in sending a letter to all OW members about the Archiving Fund as a possibility for designated donations, memorials, etc. The group approved this mailing with the Officially Withdrawn supplying mailing labels, and a request that the Foundation update the online donation process by adding this fund for designation. NEW BUSINESS HCL/MPL Merger Information Sources: www.hclib.org/merger - link on HCL’s public homepage www.hclib.org/Premerger - info for library staff Entertainment: The Archiving Group had prepared a questionnaire about HCL past libraries – everyone enjoyed the exercise and expressed an interest in continuing – lots of fun! PROGRAM The group viewed DVD clips from the Oral History Project begun in 1987: Marvin Nelson, Ruth Harris & Jean Smith, and Dorothy Dunn. Everyone agreed to continue this viewing at future meetings. Volunteers are needed to log the time on DVD’s (log what question is asked and answer so topics can be located easily), may need to use a computer or DVD player with a counter. Cindy Ahrens & Pat Kulseth volunteered. Pat K. will check with a friend on the possibility of duplicating the DVD’s so a copy can be used for the logging process (and will maintain the originals).
