Pakistan Air Defence immediately shot down its two jets.
POW Flt.Lt Nachiketa was involved in hostile attack on Pakistani positions. When
his Mig-27 was shot he ejected and after landing on the ground he tried to
escape. He fired on the Pakistani soldiers with his pistol but still he could
not escape and was captured. Indian govt. refused to take its pilot which was
afterwards handed over to the Red Cross.
The pieces of enemy jets being shown to the international media, the UN
observers were also present on the scene.
The pilot of Mig-21 Sqn Ldr.Ajay Ahuja was killed, India made a propaganda that
Pakistan had shot him after capturing him. Pakistan made it clear that a living
pilot is more usefull than a dead one.
