Pakistan Day Picnic - September 10, 2000

Keeping up with it traditions, the Pakistan Association celebrated the 53th year of our country's Independence Day by holding an all day picnic in the scenic site of Seneca State Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The Association provided halal burgers and drinks. A variety of side dishes and sweets were brought in by the attendees estimated to be over 400. We are thankful for the cooperation and assistance of area businesses for sponsoring the event. Light music was provided by Aamir and his friends.

An important feature of the picnic was the appearance made by Mr. Terry Lierman, the Democratic candidate for the 8th congressional district. Representing the Republican party was Mr. Cristopher McCabe, Maryland Sate Senator. The event thus provided an opportunity for bringing up issues of concern to the community, sensitizing the candidates as to our preferences and impressing  upon them that we are politically aware and we vote.

The Pakistan Association is a non-profit, community supported organization, unaffiliated with any political party or advocacy group. Although the Association does not endorse particular candidates it is our goal to inform the Pakistani American community as to pertinent political issues and to provide a forum for debate and discussion.

Here is Mr. Lierman with some of the Association workers:
