Metal Forming Capabilities
Using our 3000 Ton Hydraulic Press, Painter Tool has developed precision forming  capabilities for a variety of materials and products.  Using conventional (Deep Draw) forming, we can easily form materials up to 1.5 inches in thickness.
In addition to the precision forming of blanks for machining,  Painter Tool has employed a CMM inspection process and tooling, establish limits for future forming operations, and verify the formed blank geometry to ensure it can be machined to specifications.  Using a CMM to perform the inspection process and provide the results, Painter Tool personnel can deliver the inspection data via email.  If a decision is made to use a blank that does not meet the established limits, the results can be passed to the engineer and the machinist in the shop, allowing for modification of the setup of machining procedures to salvage a part that might otherwise have been scrappped.  Since our founding in 1966, Painter Tool, Inc. has continually improved the forming processes, and as a result is now able to form many parts to the near final addition, percision forming has resulted in a significant reduction in the generation of waste materials, as well as improving the mechanical properties of the components being produced due to the grain flow patterns following the geometry of the component.
Precision Formed Rings
One of Painter Tool's specialties is in the fabrication of precision formed rings.  These rings can be manufacctured to your specifications, or military specifications, from materials such as Inconel, Monel, Stainless Stell, Carbon Steel, etc.  The advantages to forming a ring, rather than machining it from solid bar are many. For instance

A formed ring is stronger than a shaped machined from bar because the material's grain flow is parallel to the contour of the ring.

Lower cost since less starting maaterial and less machining time are required.

A formed ring is less likely to present a leakage path through the grain structure of the material when utilized in high pressure retaining applications.
Typical Cross Sections of Formed Rings
Manufactured By Painter Tool, Inc.
The following are typical cross sections of some of the formed rings that Painter Tool has manufactured.  Diameters can range from 1 1/2 " to 48 ".  Wall thickness can range from .063 to 1 1/2"  as formed.  Ring heights can range from less than 3/8" to over 3".  Several other cross sectional configurations have also been produced.
