Painfully Fluffy

Chocolate boxes and roses,
A pocket full of posies,
Seen through a haze
Of muslin and flowers.
Love starts as a daze
That overcomes our powers.

But I can't take it any more -
It's too painfully fluffy.

"Love you" "Love you stronger"
But no-one ever wonders
What the competition's for.

I want the variety
Of hearts and flowers
That come with blood
And thorns intact.

Because the bitter
Makes it all the sweeter.
Without the tiny sting in the tail
How can I be sure it's real?
That it's not just
Too painfully fluffy?
