I'm Scottish by birth: born and brought up in Edinburgh. However, I have  dual US/UK citizenship. My mother is American, my father English, and I have immediate family in France, Spain, Australia, Mauritius, New Zealand  and California. Not forgetting my sister, who has lived in Berlin, Germany  since 1994...family tradition of upping sticks I guess.

Following in this international tradition, I went to university in London and have lived in San Diego, California, sinceOctpber 2001. Since April 2003 I have worked in a Neuropathology research lab at UCSD, which focuses on neurodegeneration in AIDS patients. I am a Research Associate, which means I do a lot of the meat and potatoes work, and am trying to learn as much about the theory behind it all so that one day I can be the person having the ideas, with my own Research Associate to maintain cell cultures and futz about in the lab on my behalf.

Though I'm a scientist by trade, I have many outside interests. My first interest would have to be music: listening to it, dancing to it,  performing it, whatever. I love going to gigs and music festivals. My  tastes are pretty broad-ranging: alternative rock, some electronic, lots of  stuff basically. The main thing I  like is a good strong lead singer, with  some passion in their voice. Not just someone who can (almost) carry the tune and (mostly) remembers the words.

Besides the music, I dabble in photography. As you can see by the "arty"  presentation I'm learning photoshop by trial and error. I hope to set up my own darkroom sometime, along with the potter's wheel and kiln...and maybe  a smithy in the back yard for ironworking (something I've not learned yet  but want to try) I've tried my hand at any craft-like things I can,  including some dressmaking and basic jewelry making/enamelling.

Since June 2003 I have been living with my partner, Matt, we're going to be handfasted this July, and are planning a more conventional wedding for midsummer 2005. We have two super fuzzy cats: Taliesin and Marble, and have just bought our fist home together.
