my labour and birth story...
January 16th 2002

Today is the day! I'm heading to the hospital to be induced! It's a few weeks early but they tell me Rory is growing too fast!
Tomorrow I'll have my baby!

9pm I arrive at the hospital and went through to Women's Emergency. There i had to fill in a few forms, get my ID bracelet and wait a little while. Then a lady came to take me to my room. I was very nervous on the way, in the car i had so many butterflies in my stomach and i felt sick, I thought I'd hyperventilate!

9:30pm    I got into my hospital gown and gave a urine sample up on the delivery ward in room 11. My midwife's name is Melissa, she seems nice. She attaches a few tracers of the CTG machine to my tummy with elastic - one measures the baby's heartbeat, the other measures any uterine contractions. We have a few problems getting the heartbeat cos Rory decided to roll around everywhere! they need at least 20 mins of good tracing before they induce and it's taking forever.

10:15pm   Finally there's enough trace. The new prolem is that i have a posterior cervix (it is too far back) so they have trouble with the gels. if they put it in the opening of the cervix it means trouble for baby so they cant do that.

10:30pm    Finally the gels are in place, but now i need to pee! i have to lie down for at least 1 hour and have the CTG tracer on for at least half an hour after the gels! Melissa's off duty now i have an english girl called Mary.

11pm   Am dying to go to the bathroom. Mary makes me a cup of tea. Mum and i are peeved we have to pay for the phone and tv. we think our insurance should cover it but it doesn't.

11:40pm    Can finally pee! Took 2 temazepam to sleep. I'm a bit sleepy. But now mum's going home. I'm all alone now.
