Me and Ade stayed in Espot (circled on map) for a couple of days to relax and breathe deeply of the cool Pyrennean air. Very picturesque it was too. I've not marked it on the map, but if you trace the red road South East from Espot (as you look at the map, past the campsites and round the inverted S bend you arrive at a junction in the road - this is where the bus lets you out. The walk TO Espot is all uphill (it being half way up a Pyrenee). All 13 Km of it.

Well worth the pain, though.

The following pics give a taster of what it was like further into the Mountains. The lake, "Estany de Sant Maurici" in Catalan, is point "1" on the map. Pt. 1 to Pt. 2 is one of the little mountain walks you can do.
This is the lake - not a bad backdrop, huh? From here, it's just a few Km up to Refugi Amitges, (Pt. 2).
There's snow on the ground even in May, and the weather was apt to change quickly and often, as you can just about tell from the quality of the light in these two pictures...

The picture below was taken looking out from Refugi Amitges.
More photos of Catalunya to come...
