PAHAD Association - Introduction
WHO WE ARE
PAHAD is a charitable organisation, run entirely by volunteers who believe that the Pestalozzi principles of education is essential for the development of the individual persons as well as for the development of a poor agricultural country like Nepal. The volunteers give their time and talent freely in the work of the association. This group of Volunteers who established PAHAD in April 2000 are men and women from different walks of life. They are retired soldiers, teachers, engineers, journalists, students and former Housemothers at the Pestalozzi Village. They do have one ideal in common and that is being deeply impressed and inspired by the work of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, a Swiss humanitarian and educator born in 1746. The Pestalozzi Village in East Sussex, England has so far educated 30 boys and girls from Nepal. . Some of these graduates and their Housemothers sit on the Executive Board of the PAHAD Association. They are excited at the opportunity to help other children to discover the Pestalozzi legacy. THE PESTALOZZI PRINCIPLES The Pestalozzi principles is to develop children into well-balanced and responsible adults through the development of their "Head", "Heart" and "Hands" - principles first introduced by the Swiss educator at the turn of the eighteenth century when he cared for many of the children orphaned by the Napoleonic wars. Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi gave these children academic knowledge (Head), practical skills (Hand), and moral and social education (Heart). He was so successful that his children and his methods spread to other parts of Europe and to the rest of the world. Now, Pestalozzi Foundations established by ex-Pestalozzi scholars in India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Zambia are helping many children in their countries obtain education which follows the Pestalozzi principles. PAHAD is also involved with Pestalozzi Overseas Childrens' Trust (POCT) in assisting its scholars in Nepal. There are over 60 children being provided with scholarship at present. Many of these children have expressed their desire to join PAHAD after completing their school. Thus they will in their turn, we hope, provide the continuity in the future. PAHAD'S OBJECTIVES
