| Kids say the Darndest things. |
| These past few months have been a host to a few travesties. The school shooting in California, the 14 yr old boy killing the 6 yr old girl by wrestling, and the 13 and 14 yr olds imitating Jackass by setting one boy on fire. In this little essay, I hope to bring you my views, and not make you dumber because of reading this. When I first heard about the boy in California who shot up his school, the first thing I thought was "Oh God, not another one". After hearing quite a bit about this, I have a few different opinions. One, mainly, is that they shouldn't keep trying to blame the music industry. The defense tried to place the blame on Linkin Park. While OnAn is not in any way associated with Linkin Park, we all collectivly think this is a load of bullshit. If you listen to the actual lyrics of Linkin Park's "One Step Closer", they could almost be misconstrued as violent or threatening, but by no means was this the intention of the writers, producers, or record companies involved. But, of course, grief stricken parents can never blame themselves, so they must blame the media. And, seeing how Marilyn Manson and Eminem are passe to be making fun, since they have media support and the teen audience, it's simply easier to pick on a band that is up and coming. One example of this is 311. They tried to blame them with having Ku Klux Klan affilations when in truth, the numbers were merely the California Penal Code for Indecent Exposure, but of course, nobody would ever realize this. This year, a 14 yr old boy went on trial for the malicious killing of his playmate, a 6 yr old girl. Lionel Tate, a small child, went on trial for accidentally crushing the skull of a little girl. The defense tried to put pro-wrestling at blame, seeing as how Lionel was performing powerbombs and piledrivers on her when it happened. My question about this is, if the boy was mentally infereior as the defense claims, what was he doing playing with a 6 yr old? More importantly than that, where were the parents? And to add to the point, why didn't they tell him wrestling was staged and not to wrestle in the house? This is merely a case of negligence by the parents, and now a little girl is dead, and a little boy will be in prison for at least 25 years. This past month or so, a 13 yr old boy recieved 3rd degree burns after imitating a stunt he saw performed on Jackass. I have only one thing to say, "Why didn't he read the fucking disclaimer?" It says in plain English that kids are not to imitate the stunts performed on Jackass, nor are any of his dumb little buddies. The people performing the stunts are trained professionals. Why didn't the parents tell him about the dangers of fire, or that he could be seriously hurt playing with fire? But now the kid is trying to say that all he was doing was imitating what he saw on Jackass, and he thought he could send in his tape and makes loads of money. My question is, did he not read the disclaimer? And if he did, why didn't he heed the warning? Does he honestly think that MTV puts those on just for the pure pleasure of wasting mucho dinero? And speaking of MTV, because of that dumb little bastard, MTV is thinking of changing their format to better suit the Teeny-Bopper boy band lovers as opposed to the actual music fans out there. They are thinking of making more shows like "Undressed" and "Road Rules" as opposed to quality programming like "Beavis and Butthead". Sorry to on for so long, but dammit, it pisses me off, and I hope you're irritated as well. -Cary of OnAn |
