Wic-Can Fest

June 11th-16th 2002

OK So it rained. OK so it rained a lot.

Wic-Can Fest (AKA Slug Fest) this year was wet and damp most of the time. Some people left early. Myself like a good trooper stuck it out.

This year mostly because of the rain it did have some disadvantages. But I must say that the advantages of this fest greatly outnumber the bad.

Disadvantages:

1. I did not swim as much as I wanted to due to rain.
2. Ran out of Dry clothing by day 4.
3. Slugs covered everything.
4. The rain affected peoples mood in some ways and people
were getting fed up with being rained on for that
many days straight.
5. It’s hard to cook food over an open fire when there is
two feet of water in the fire pit.

Advantages:

1. Hot showers on site and never ran out of water.
2. Bought a new Sarong, which is my Favorite now.
3. People gathered in small and larger groups where
ever they could find shelter from the rain and out
of it came some terrific discussions.
4. They have a full kitchen that provides hot meals.
The meal passes are very affordable and the food
fantastic.
5. Great Bands played.
6. It did stop raining at nighttime for the dancing and
fire most evenings.
7. Great classes were offered of every type.
8. Men’s Ritual was Fantastic.
9. The Staff and Volunteers did everything in their power
to make everyone as comfortable as possible.
10. I saw many people helping each other out from flooded
tents etc. The community in general will be better
off because of this.
11. Lots of Vendors of every size and shape to Satisfy all
your needs present and future.

I have been told by people that have attended this fest in the past that the rain we received is not standard for the Fest.

The group gathered is fantastic and the Atmosphere at this fest was fantastic even if the weather conditions were not perfect.

I have been to this site for Harvest Fest and it is very well organized. For this reason I highly recommend this fest to everyone except anybody that knows the rain dance.

Next year I will be attending again and hope to see you there.
