more photos this way
These photos are from class assignments and just touring around the San Luis Valley. I think they show the variety and flavor of this wonderful place.
A Summer backyard in Alamosa
Another backyard shot from Alamosa. This one is on the less wealthy side of town
Since the valley contains 4 of the 5 poorest counties in Colorado, the people here are quite good at making due. As in this fence made from old bed springs
I really love making one thing look like another. In this case a weed looks like a stand of trees viewed from a helicopter.
Occasionally even barbed wire needs a rest. Here, three coils of it are taking a siesta on a corner post.
The San Luis Valley is the oldest settled area in Colorado. For hundreds of years folks
have been building and re-building their
dreams on these tired acres of dirt.
Many of the original settlements
lie fallow such as this one.
On a day hike near Creede I passed this shadowy scrub area. I
like the way the shadows
               fall.
This was on the same hike. Just a little further up the trail.
And passing throught the tree on the left we
find this gully.
I'm constantly amazed by the fact that one can move from daylight to dark and summer to winter in the same day here in the Valley. I started this hike in my t-shirt, by the time I got here it was time to put on my coat.
This is an example of a bright Spring day. It was actually quite warm.
