Merry Hello and Welcome to
December 18th
Today, my family and I will be making snowflakes.  This idea comes from an activity I do with my children to show them how crystals grow.

I have been told that there is a similar activity in the Yule book written by Dorothy Morrison.

You will need...
various pipe cleaners
a mayonaisse jar for each person
some yarn or string
a box of borax
1 pencil or small stick per person
boiling water

I take leftover  pipecleaner pieces from various activities that we have done throught the year, and cut them into equal lengths.  Take 5 of them and make them into a pentacle using a full size pipe cleaner for the outer circle.  Take a piece of string and tie it to the center area, tieing the other end of ther string to the stick.

Boil 2 cups of water per person.  Put the 2 cups of boiling water intot he mayonaisse jar, add 7 tablespoons of borax (one at a time, stirring while you add) until the water quits absorbing the borax.  Hang the pentacle from the stick into the the jar.  (stick across the top)

Let them sit until Yule eve.  On Yule eve, the kids and I take them outside and hang them around our porch (i tend to make some extras) and we go back inside.  When the kids awake the next morning and the sun is shining, they have glittery, shining snowflakes to see.
Walk with us back to the main Yule page.
I will see you tomorrow

Blessings to you and yours
