| Harry's Story |
| This is Harry as a baby. Harry is my token Bay and he is a Welsh Section D. His Posh name is Whinmoor Duke of York - he had that before I bought him so don't blame me. Harry came about for several reasons. Firstly, I had section Ds before and loved them. My dad died and left me some money which I didn't want to waste and I wanted something to love as much as I did my dad, so, I thought I would get a Section D foal to bring on and drive later. I found Harry through Horse and Hound, went to see him and fell in love. He was a cantankerous bugger with attitude and couldn't give a damn unless you had food. A bit like my dad really... Now my dad's initials were HRH. Not His Royal Highness (although if you had met him you would have been forgiven to think otherwise) But Harold Ross Hart. Now, what is a Duke of York - His Royal Highness - HRH, hence, Harry after my dad. Fate - possibly. Harry is a bit of a loner. Doesn't like other horses much. Doesn't like anyone very much. Tolerates me, just. But boy does he have presence. I have plans for Harry. If he ever loses his winter coat (if we ever get a bloody summer) I intend to show him in this his 2 year old year (2005) I will let you know how we get on. Harry will be broken to drive this year, same as Simon and broken to ride at the end of next year. I haven't ridden for such a long time as I am more interested in driving. I have been known to say that if I never sat on a horse again, it wouldn't bother me. True, but I actually want to ride Harry. He is not without his Tales of Woe. When he was gelded, he didn't respond to the antidote too well (Revivon) and proceeded to box walk for an hour and a half until the vet could come back and give him some more and he cut his eye walking blindly into the walls. He was chased for 7 hours as a yearling by a colt who was sharing his field. He lost so much weight and it took me 8 months to get him back on track. He still worries if there are any strange horses about. Poor love, he went out a Section D and came back in a Thoroughbred. More later.... |
