1. Menu. The dietitian was approached by concerned parents regarding the nutritional value of the food choices. She briefly explained that the CDC has to meet (not necessarily exceed) the USDA standards in order to be reimbursed and for her to sign off on the menus. This particular set of parents wasn’t sure that the foods offered were from the menu that was approved. The concern was that the food supplied was deviating from the menu. The dietitian asked the parents to keep the daily records of the children’s food and snacks from their room so that it could be compared to the posted menu and follow up with her if there were inconsistencies. (The dietitian is looking for patterns, recognizing that substitutions in food service sometimes have to happen.) The dietitian will be happy to receive any input on this issue if parents have similar (or other) nutrition related concerns.
2. There was also some discussion on portion control and a concern that an inadequate amount of food for the classroom was being supplied. If there is not enough food available, the room can request additional food from the kitchen. Normally, the side dishes are increased.
3. Outside food (i.e. food from home) is not allowed at the center due to potential food allergies. Food brought from the outside, usually related to holidays and celebrations, are given to the parent to give to the child.
4. Notification for the closure on 2 Jan. Notices were posted on the door of the center and in the classroom. For those that the center knew were out, the staff attempted to call them at home. A suggestion was made to also put it on the "7000" line if there is a short notice.
5. Camp applications will be taken 5-16 Feb for current patrons and 5-16 March for new patrons.
6. The center agreed to look into the procedure currently being used for hourly reservations. Sometimes there are very long waiting lines.
7. The new SAS building (693) will be open next week
8. A new infant room will be opening up at the center. With the opening of the SAS building (693), numerous modifications will be made at B1207 to accommodate more children and reinstate the gross motor room.
9. A concern was raised that the night cleaning crew was not properly cleaning classroom. Upon arriving in the morning, there is still food, juice, etc. on the floors and tables. The cleaning crew is not mopping or vacuuming the room. They don’t move any of the table, chairs, or other furniture in order to clean properly. According to AR 608-10, chapter 5, section VI, 5-37, p 77: “Caliber of the cleaning service desired will be specified as hospital-grade quality”. The staff promised to look into the issue.
