The obligatory family and personal history. Ugh. Well, I'm an only child, thank the gods, because I can't imagine having bratty siblings annoying me. My parents were enough. My father, oh my father, with his ideals and righteousness - it made me sick. Everything had to be his way, the way he saw things. Everything was black and white, clear, no hint of gray. And I was a black, black soul. At least that's how he saw me. My mother wasn't as bad, but she wasn't good either - just sat back and let him talk for her. All I got out of her was, "Listen to your father, dear."
Thank the gods for my mother's cousin, Vitran, who actually had something like sense. He was as black as I was, according to my father, but really both he and I have morals, and live by them.
My father hates Vitran because he dabbles in death magic, in necormancy. Well, not dabbles, exactly - the evil ones call it dabbling, but Vit's pretty serious about his studies. Just he's not in it for the power, and he doesn't kill a lot of people, and he doesn't make zombies and stuff. Just studies death, like I do.
We want answers, and understanding. Practically everyone fears death and anything to do with it. I want to know what exactly it is and everything, and so does Vit. Can't be that bad, and we're gonna prove it. Or make it better.
Plus there's the bad ones to consider, the ones who mess with stuff they shouldn't, like making undead and stuff. How my father expects to fight them without understanding their weapons I don't know, but I'm gonna learn to understand their weapons. Forget my father, society, all that crap. Don't mean anything to me. Vit's the same way. He's really my father, except in blood. Soon as I could I moved out of home and in with him. Eventually my father gave up on me and stopped trying to keep me away from him and junk, and just left us be.
Yeah, well, better be enough, 'cause I've got better things to do with my time then jabber on about myself.
Vitran is her mother's cousin, and Malene believes he is the only one who understands her. He taught her basically everything she knows, and holds a fascination for both death and magic.
Andolius is her father, and basically a religious fanatic. He considers Malene his greatest failure and no longer thinks of her as his daughter. Because she began ignoring him at an early age, Malene missed out on learning about religions from him.
Jysria is her mother, a cowering woman without the strength of conviction to stand up against Andolius.
