PAC/SAL's Accomplishments

Over the past 6 years, we have been involved in many activities in our schools that support the building of inclusive communities. Some of these activities are:

• Parent Education Programs
• Newsletters
• Our small but growing resource library
• Copies of informational handouts at all meetings
• Parent Networking and Support
• 1995 - LEAF Grant used to purchase books on disabilities for the three school libraries and the Ritter Library
• 1998 - LEAF Grant awarded jointly to PAC/SAL, School-Linked Services and Turkey Hill Middle School to provide training for "Kids on the Block" Program.
• Yearly sponsorship of Magazine Subscription to Exceptional Parent at Ritter Library Membership in:
  Federation for Children with Special Needs
  LDA - Learning Disabilities Association
  LDAM- Learning Disabilities Association of Massachusetts
  ARC- Association for Retarded Citizens
  National Parents Network on Disabilities Council for Exceptional Children
• Membership and participation in:
  FAIR (Fair and Inclusive Reform)
  Special Education Coalition
  One Voice for Children Coalition
  MassPAC- Massachusetts Association of Special Education Parent's Advisory Councils - Founding Member- Also presenter at September 1998 meeting and January 1999 meeting: topic - Effective Outreach and Politcal Landscape. Host- December 1999. Panel Presentation including Dr. Richard Carlson (Superintendant), Loxi Calmes (Director of Instruction), Robert Gillis (HS Principal), Cyndy Daukantis (Elementary Principal), Ernest Hunter (School Committee Chair), and Carol Demont (Past Chair, PAC/SAL) topic- Working in Partnership.
• Massachusetts Human Services Coalition-Participation through article in State House Watch
• Voting seat on Lunenburg PTO
• Informational tables at all school open houses and Middle School Expo Night
• Lunenburg High School - Multi Cultural Festival Participation
• Representation on the following task forces:
  Hiring - Director of Instruction, Achieve teachers, School Social Worker. Elementary Learning Center second teacher, School Psychologist
• IEP Task Force
• Multi Cultural Festival Planning Committee
• Resource for Health Curriculum topic on Disability Awareness
• Participation in evalutation of Director of Instruction
• Sponsored Area 1997 Legislative Forum on Special Education Reform and related smaller 1998 Forum with Representative Robert Hargraves Representation at State House Hearings on Special Education Reform
• Principal Representation at our meetings started in 1997
• School Committee Representation starting 1998
• Presentation of Special Educator of the Year Awards 1997 and 1998.
• Christmas Party for familys- 1999
• Networking and collaberation with area Parent's Advisory Councils, Fitchburg, Leominster, North Middlesex Regional School District, Groton-Dunstable Regional School District.
