So there you have it, 24-13. It wasn't pretty, but then again the NFL hasn't been pretty this year. Brett wasn't very efficient, his receivers were subpar with the exception of Freeman and Driver. Driver's end around play was very well executed and he was probably the only one who could run that play, great play QUICKIE! Mr. Freeman was not very efficient, but came through when it mattered. That catch in the fourth quarter was a thing of beauty. It was a clutch catch when we needed a clutch play. Antonio is quietly going about his business this year and doing a great job. As far as the defense goes, we need Nate Wayne back in a bad way. He should be returning this week barring any unforeseen issues. That will have an immediate impact on the run defense. As far as the passs defense goes, I know that Sturgeon fellow wasn't the greatest QB in the world, but he did put up alright numbers against the Jags last week. But damn! Mike McKenzie should be in the Pro Bowl! Will it happen? Probably not. Not enough interceptions, but he is one of the best coverage corners in the league. Green Bay needs to get him signed, sealed, and delivered. We need to keep this secondary on place for years. Ron Wolf did an exceptional job with this area. The four players we have back there, McKenzie, Williams, Sharper, and Jue could be a defensive dynasty for years to come.
Hey! I know we sucked for most of the game! Our run defense was enough to make me want to kill and we couldn't get Ahman going against a horrible defense. It is what it is, a win in the National Football League against a bitter opponent, a rivalry unmatched in the NFL with the exception of the Bears. So Viking Fan, it's going to be a long and cold winter, so enjoy!
On to this week, I am ready to concede the division title to the Bears with the fact that the Jags don't have a chance in Chicago in January. Ummm, just maybe! Power of positive thought. After all the lucky wins they have had they are due. It would be ideal of course. The Giants are done and they have no motivation to play spoiler against a Packer team that has caused them no issues or bulletin board material, but I feel it will not be an easy game.
Now on to this weeks take on officiating, or lack there of. Look at all the issues again this week and see if I am correct about the refs being dirty. I will leave that alone, but they flat out suck! The calls were horrible, inconsistent, and wrong half the time. The no calls alone in the Packer game were horrible, for and against both teams. It is a joke, and even worse going to cost someone a game. Even with replay, teams are getting screwed. So refs, we've had it with your officiating skills and indecisive calls (let's huddle about an illegal man downfield, but not even talk on a drive killing interference call!). So there are those of you who say I am nuts or an idiot. Let me ask this one question...How many spreads hit yesterday? How many were decided by bad calls or no calls? Not that I am about gambling, my concern is getting the right calls in order to ensure the correct team wins based on skill, not the luck of a call or non-call. By the way the spread on the packer game was 11, imagine that.
The Pack will win this week, but the game will be closer than the score indicates. Then it's on to the playoffs. I will not attempt to disassemble last week's takes, I'm sticking to them even though I did not expect the 49ers to lose to the Cowboys.
