Christmas Vandalism - Please help!
The following information was submitted by a distraught neighbor residing on Hickory to our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator.  Please help the Neighborhood Watch Program by watching for and reporting any suspicious activity in our neighborhood.

"Hello,

We understand you are helping with the Neighborhood Watch.  Just wanted to let you know we experienced some vandalism so you could pass the word.  We live at 2298 Hickory and had an inflatable Christmas display in our front yard.  On Friday, December 9th, sometime after 11 p.m., it was torn when someone tried to pull up the hold down stakes from the base.  We repaired the damage on Saturday.  On Saturday night, between 9:45 pm and 11 pm, it was damaged again.  It appears two people either jumped on it or tried to jump on it and this time the damage is severe.  We will not put it back up this year.

It is too bad we live in an area where you cannot even celebrate holidays without someone damaging or destroying your property.  We have only lived here since June and are very disappointed by the act.

We appreciate what you and others in the Neighborhood Watch do and hope warning others will assist in curbing acts like these.

Thank you."

Often, this kind of vandalism results from the immature acts of teens or other young adults who most likely live in or very near our own subdivision.  Destructive vandalism of this nature is seen by youth as funny.  Do you know where your teen is during the evening?  We all must do our part to curb this kind of vandalism by educating our teens on the critical need to respect the property of others.  Our neighborhood is not free from crime or vandalism and it is the responsibility of every neighbor to keep an eye out for destructive behavior.

If you or anyone you know has any information relating to this latest act of vandalism please contact the Neighborhood Watch coordinator, Valerie Vaughn, 887-1519 and/or the Meridian Police Department, 888-6678.
