Inspection
and Registration:

Inspect
cars for length, width, and weight first, then register.
Once car passes, put a number on it and put it in quarantine,
racer gets ribbon with same number as car to wear and 1 refreshment coupon.
The second
coupon
is
for Drivers Choice Award voting.
Once a car is inspected, IT MAY NOT BE REMOVED.
One
wheel lube for the day before car placed in quarantine.

Derby Rules
Rules
are as stated on instructions in car kit box.
In addition:
Wheels
and axles must come from official BSA kit or official BSA Spare Wheel/Axle kit
sold at Scout Shop.

NO
High Performance Axle kit from Scout Shop

No
reduced diameter axles.

Wheels
may be lightly sanded to remove seam but must remain flat and extremely
close to original form.

No
aftermarket lathe-turned wheels even if they are official BSA wheels.

A
sample of lathe-turned wheels will be available to judges for comparison
at sign-in.

No
H-shaped or V-shaped wheels
-
No
ridged wheels
-
No
long wheelbase cars - you must use slots precut in wood chassis block for
axles. If your slots are not perpendicular to body we’ll get you a new
block of wood.

No
spoiler/concave nose combos to take advantage of differential release time
from starting pegs.

Only
dry powdered lubricants such as graphite may be used.
-
The
weight must not be over 5 ounces.
Try
to make car weigh exactly 5 oz to make it competitive.
Scale
will be available at Pinewood Work Night
Expert
advice and powertools will enable you to complete a significant
amount of work on your car if you need
help.

width is 2.75 inches. Max
length is 7 inches

Please
do not use any precut aftermarket designs (i.e. a car already shaped and
sanded).

Such
cars will be disqualified from the design awards such as Parents’ Choice
and Drivers’ Choice.
Boys
should do as much work as possible for his age. There will be a separate Dad’s Race for competitive spirits -
same rules as Cub Scouts apply.
Siblings
may also enter a car in a Siblings Race - same rules as Cub Scouts apply.
